"A Whiter Shade of Pale"’ was released 12 May 1967. The record reached No.1 in the UK Singles chart and No. 5 on the US charts. One of the counterculture anthems of the 1967 Summer of Love, it is one of fewer than 30 singles to have sold over 10 million copies worldwide. The original writing credits of the Bach derived melody were for Brooker and Reid only. On 30 July 2009, Matthew Fisher won co-writing credit for adding the organ parts to the original music in a unanimous ruling from the Law Lords.
